2018: A Year In Review

Baddest Self.jpg

Well hello, sweet babe.

It might be weird to kick off The First Ever Blog Post on this here website with an annual review but it’s happening and you’re here so let’s just roll with it.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the what and why of what I want to create. Flowing from it all being for the shits and giggles to wanting to over my legacy (and how, maybe, they’re the same thing). Honestly, I want to be a babe who’s more about the action than the ideas. The Doing.

Part of my personal vision of The Doing involves sharing. Getting involved in the process. Basically, blogging. Also podcasting and videos but let’s not get carried away just yet.

Gala’s post on creating the internet you want to see had me amped to get busy doing and her OG blogging annual review post served up the perfect platform to get started. And, so, here we go!

What did you do in 2018 that you’d never done before?

Designed, printed, and sold The Deck! And tees! And jewellery! Creating these actual products that are part of people’s lives has been the most unexpected turn of my creative career. The bad bitch affirmations started as a self-care tool for myself and snowballed into something waaaay more fucking majestic than I could have imagined.

I also dyed my hair pink (and purple and even turquoise for a hot sec) which was just a great decision.

Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I didn’t have any resolutions for 2018! But I did plan to spend my year creating and being with myself. It’s been a big year of personal growth. Babe, there’s been breakthroughs and breakdowns and I feel like I’ve never known or loved myself as much as I do right now, yet still, I’m only beginning.

In 2019 I want to love me more. Be braver. Create more. My real goals are a lot more tangible. Maybe that’s another post entirely.

Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes! I got a new niece, Rudy!

Did anyone close to you die?

What countries did you visit?

Japan - which was beyond epic. This year was mostly about been back in Australia and being mad happy about my decision to move home. There’s a fair few trips brewing for next year though!

What would you like to have in 2019 that you lacked in 2018?

Patience! I am so painfully impatient - I want it all and I want it now. This year I’m going to consistently focus on being more ~present~ (look, it’s a buzzword for a reason!)

And bravery! In 2019 I’m gonna be brave AF.

Did you suffer illness or injury?

No! V grateful for that!

What was the best thing you bought?

I guess my new Macbook Pro after a spilled a drink all over my last one (every Mac I’ve ever had has died this way! When will I learn?!). Photoshop, too. And my Wacom tablet. That trifecta of tools have allowed me to create so much magic.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Ooh making art, reading, going to the beach as much as possible. Surprises. Baths. Hanging out with my family. All the little things, really.

What song will always remind you of 2018?

Not a single song but definitely SZA’s Ctrl and Rihanna’s ANTI album. It’s basically been these on loop.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder?

Happier! Soooo much happier!

ii. Thinner or fatter?

Fitter, for sure!

iii. Richer or poorer?

Richer, baby!

What do you wish you’d done more of?

Travel. Creating. More purposeful dates and adventures with myself.

What do you wish you’d done less of?

Less future-tripping! Less over-thinking!

How did you spend Christmas?

With my family! It was the first christmas in about 10 years with the majority of us together so it was amazing and a bit mental.

What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2018?

Nothing! I’m really not one to get embarrassed.

Did you fall in love in 2018?

With myself! Pure cheese but I can’t even begin to explain the glow up my relationship with myself has undertaken!

What was your favourite TV program?

Big Mouth. Key & Peele. Still The Office (US). I just really love to laugh.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

Not at all!

What was the best book you read?

Currently reading This Marketing by Seth Godin and it’s rocking my world.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I spent my 27th birthday mini-golfing, of course!

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018?

Chill as bro.

Fashion used to be a big way for me to be creative but the more I direct that energy into my work the less I care about dressing up. Also, Queensland is, like, really freaking hot. I wear shorts and a tee or a bikini 80% of the year.

What kept you sane?

Journalling, reading, making art. Laughing with my family - I’d missed that so much.

What political issue stirred you the most?

Brexit. Honestly I stopped myself from spending too much time in the web of news. It can make the world seems lonely and scary. I directed my attention towards positive sources and supporting the good.

Who was the best new person you met?

Probably my two youngest nieces. It blows my mind to seem them growing into their own little people.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2018:

Ahh, that everything is always working out for me. Every day in every way.

As hard as it is to accept this at times, it honestly feels more and more true every day.

And that’s that, boo!

I’m so excited for this year and everything it will become.

Speak soon,

Gabriella Rosie
